AutoBahn project, Madrid, March 2026
Autobahn is a continuous, autonomous traffic system for simulated vehicles. It plays on a 20-meter-wide screen in the exhibition space at SOLO CSV in Madrid.

Gallery visitors can physically drive around the space in an Ugly Fiat Multipla. A Fiat wheel with horn is connected to the simulation onscreen. Pressing the horn spawns a car to fall from the sky.
All cars can be minted on autobahndotcom.de and are stored as 1:1 GIFs on IPFS.
Installation runs in 2 Modes:
- Continuous: Simulates indefinitely and can be observed in person during the opening hours of the exhibition. Cars can spawn multiple times.
- Finite: Simulates only once. It can be viewed in person or during a live stream on 16 March at 7:00pm CET. It is recorded and archived on IPFS.

Every car, minted and non-minted, spawns only once. Non-minted cars spawn off screen, then drive into view. Cars minted until 14 March 19:00 CET are set up to fall from the sky (this is done manually, therefore the deadline). Spawn frequency can be manipulated on site by pressing the horn button in the physical car. The Finite run concludes when all cars, minted and non-minted, have been simulated.

Each model’s properties contribute to the driving. See market for specific models. Every car is driven by a randomly assigned AI agent with a set of traits. Personalities influence how careful versus aggressive drivers solve road situations.

Setup:
Autobahn: 3 lanes in each direction, 1 emergency lane. Length 600m. 50m in view.
